Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ADCC West Coast Trials 2022

Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Head Instructor Gregory Raffield competed at ADCC trials this weekend and had an awesome showing! Greg competed in the 88kg weight class with a bracket size of 256. Coach Greg Secured a Heel Hook in the first match in under 42 seconds! The inside Heel Hook has been a go to move for Greg. The second match Coach Greg took his opponents back off a while timed Kimura. After securing the body triangle Greg moved to finishing his opponent via a very tight strangle hold, his opponent had good defense and wrist control but ultimately Greg was able to sink in a very deep figure four grip and his opponent tapped quickly. Moving all the way from the 256 bracket to spot number 64, Greg's last opponent for the day was a tough Brown Belt. The match was a tough one with Greg taking a brutal head butt to the face almost sending his front teeth through his lip. Despite the blood, Greg kept going after his opponent with some good attacks, his opponent scored a guard pass and ultimately decided that was enough to win the fight. Matches like this often see tactics employed as mentioned above. Sometimes it is better to "play the game" then to submit your opponent. Despite the loss of the third match, Greg had a great showing and everyone at Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is super proud of him! To be gracious in victory and defeat is the greatest accomplishment any combat athlete could strive for!
